Frequently Asked Questions about Prostatitis
Answers
My family doctor says that I am suffering from Prostatitis, but he did not tell me in detail about it. What is Prostatitis?
Prostatitis is a swelling or infection of the prostate. The prostate is a gland (fluid secreting organ) of the male reproductive system, located just below the urinary bladder around urethra (tube which carries urine from the bladder out through the tip of the penis).
It is one of the very painful conditions and it is the commonest of all prostate diseases.
What are the causative factors for Prostatitis?
There can be multiple causes like
- Bacterial infection (most common)
- Autoimmune (disturbed self healing mechanism of body),
- Injury or tension (lifting heavy weight when bladder is full),
- Prostate stones, tumour
- Diabetes mellitus
- Structural changes in urinary tract like stricture in urethra,
- Occupations that subject the prostate to strong vibrations, such as driving a truck or operating heavy machinery, may play a role.
How common is Prostatitis?
At least 40% of men's visits to urologists are caused by Prostatitis. It can affect young men, while BPH and prostate cancer are more typical of older men. Because Prostatitis varies in severity and because it has attracted little attention from researchers, no one knows how many men suffer from it but the usual statistic quoted is that over 50% of all men will suffer from it sometime in their life.
One of my colleagues is also suffering from it but he has different symptoms. Is there any type of Prostatitis?
There are four types of Prostatitis:
Acute bacterial Prostatitis (ABP) - Severe complications may develop if not promptly treated. ABP can be fatal if the bacterial infection is untreated and travels to the bloodstream (sepsis).
Chronic bacterial Prostatitis (CBP) - is a recurrent infection and inflammation of the prostate and urinary tract. Symptoms are less severe than those associated with acute bacterial Prostatitis.
Nonbacterial Prostatitis - is an inflamed prostate without bacterial infection.
Prostatodynia - Also called chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), is the occurrence of Prostatitis symptoms, without swelling or bacterial infection.
What are the symptoms of Prostatitis?
Frequent urination, Painful urination (dysuria), Incomplete emptying of bladder, urgency to urinate, Pain in penis, testicles, and area between the scrotum and the rectum (perineum), Lower back pain, blood in semen.

Homeopathic medicines.
One of my relative is better with Homeopathic medicines. How Homeopathy can help me?
Homeopathic treatment improves body’s self healing mechanism. Thus the bacterial infection, pain, frequency of urination is reduced improving the quality of patient’s life.
Dr Rajesh Shah. M.D.(Hom.) has been working on various chronic diseases including Chronic Prostatitis and BPH since 1984. His new molecules have international Patents which when used along with the traditional homeopathy, produces fantastic results which may not be possible otherwise.
How much time will this treatment take?
The total length of treatment for Chronic Prostatitis and BPH depends on the various factors like duration, extent of enlargement, age of patients, underlying infection etc.
Most patients of Chronic or recurring Prostatitis show significant results in about four months. If it is very chronic, the treatment may be longer. Cases of BPH may show improvement in symptoms and size in about six months. However, the BPH cases may need treatment for a long period.
