  • Prostatitis Complications

    Complications

    Complications of acute bacterial prostatitis (ABP) include the following:

    :: Collection of pus (abscess formation)

    :: Acute retention of the urine

    :: Chronic bacterial prostatitis

    :: Spread of the infection to the bloodstream (sepsis)

    :: Fertility may sometimes be affected because
    prostatitis influences the development of the semen
    and ejaculation.

    Sexual dysfunction is experienced by certain patients following TURP and may take up to 1 year to recover. Amongst the common problems experienced by such people is dry climax (retrograde ejaculation) wherein the semen enters the opening to the bladder instead of being expelled out during sexual climax.
